"Muralizing" culture

A digital platform that functions as a collaborative, networked space for the promotion of artists and artistic creation for all, and for the enhancement of the region's natural and cultural heritage.

It also serves as a portal for publicizing the cultural agendas of the 18 municipalities that make up the Lisbon metropolitan area.

Mural 18 – networked cultural programming in 2021

In 2021, AML and its 18 municipalities promoted a network cultural programme, called Mural 18, within the scope of the Lisbon 2020 Regional Operational Programme, under the motto "muralised in support of culture".

Through this initiative, which had a financial contribution of 1.5 million Euros from the European Regional Development Fund, a cultural program was developed in the metropolitan region of Lisbon, which united cultural agents, municipalities and citizens, in defense of the artistic community and our cultural, intangible and tangible heritage.

At a particularly delicate moment for the cultural sector, and for the agents and structures involved in its design, production and dynamization, the municipalities of the Lisbon metropolitan area, unanimously, concerted synergies and wills, and set up a program with an impact on the livelihood of those who make culture their life, but which was simultaneously a clear position on the importance of cultural activities in the life of our community.

Through Mural 18, the municipalities of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area developed in 2021 a set of events in multiple artistic areas, primarily outdoors, and in spaces that served to enhance the cultural and landscape heritage of our territory.

The program started in January 2021, and included multiple cultural events in all municipalities of the Lisbon metropolitan area, including theater festivals, concert cycles, DJ competition, jazz at the viewpoints, contemporary dance, writers' meetings, conferences, mural painting and exhibitions, among others.
