The virtual exhibition "O Povo é Quem mais Ordena", promoted by the Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (AML), in partnership with its 18 municipalities, was developed as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974.
Celebrating 50 years of culture in freedom, the exhibition—which features sounds, photographs, videos, and interviews—explores themes such as workers’ struggles, the associative movement, women’s resistance, neorealism, murals, literature, music, the visual arts, and anti-fascist resistance, among many others.
It is divided into 20 sections: an introductory section, consisting of a film on the importance of local government in the post-April 25 era, and a look at the tile mural “A Metropolitana,” created by Mário Linhares for the headquarters of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area; a central section, featuring photographs by Carlos Granja of April 25, 1974; and 18 other thematic sections, showcasing the work carried out in each of the municipalities of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, which highlights the significance of this iconic date for the country.
The exhibition, which opened in June 2025, was born out of the Metropolitan Culture Working Group, made up of political and technical representatives from the 18 municipalities in the metropolitan region, and seeks to enhance popular sovereignty as an essential element of democracy.
