Loures
Situated on the right bank of the River Tagus, the fertility of the land, the abundance of water and the purity of the countryside gave shape to this region which, from King Afonso Henriques until the reign of King Maria II, was part of the city of Lisbon. Many monarchs and nobles built their estates and palaces in these lands, which they chose as places of leisure, rest and escape from disease and pests.
Loures entered national history when the Republic was established on October 4, 1910, one day before the rest of the Portuguese municipalities.
Its landscapes, strongly marked by the perfect symbiosis between nature and history, are the perfect stage for unique moments of celebration, with special emphasis on the Saloio Snail Festival, the Saloio carnival and the county festivals.
